Meet Laura Purcell
LPA
Hi, I’m Laura.
If you’re carrying more on the inside than you let people see, you might find that this is a good place to land. I work with teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by their inner world or unsure how to navigate big emotions. Many of my clients are thoughtful and self-aware, but still feel lost, stuck, or tired of trying to hold everything together on their own. If that sounds familiar, that’s where our work begins. We get curious about what’s showing up for you, how it makes sense, and what shifts might help you feel more grounded.
My approach is warm, steady, and collaborative. I don’t come in with a script or a rigid plan. I’m person-centered at my core, and I tailor our work to what you need rather than pushing you into something that doesn’t fit. I am certified in EMDR and trained in IFS-Informed EMDR, and I use these frameworks to help you understand your internal world, process what feels heavy, and move toward change that feels real and sustainable.
I grew up here in Louisville. I went to Assumption and played volleyball at KIVA before continuing my career at Loyola University Chicago, where I studied Psychology and played collegiate volleyball. Those years shaped a lot of who I am. They taught me about pressure, identity, expectations, and what it’s like to juggle a full emotional life underneath a busy outer one. If you are a teen or young adult navigating that same world, I get it.
I’m not the therapist who barges in and tries to fix everything. You’ve built your own ways of coping, and some of them work surprisingly well. Others work until they don’t. I like exploring that with people, what’s supporting you, what might be covering things up, and what could feel better in the long run. There is no rush and no judgment, just the two of us sorting through the pieces together.
When I’m not in the office, I’m tending to my plants, finding small life hacks that make the day run smoother, trying new food around Louisville, or watching my cat Benny stretch out on the porch. I value time with the people I love and finding joy in everyday moments.
If you’re looking for a space that feels genuine, un-intimidating, and grounded in real connection, I’d be honored to work with you.
