Meet Lauren E. Grammer

Meet Lauren E. Grammer

TCADC, LPCC-S

My path to being where I am today, as a therapist at Avenues Unlimited has been shaped through many layers of experience. I began my journey to this career initially as an art teacher working in Atlanta, Georgia. In the midst of organizing artwork, I often found myself enjoying work most when spending time and connecting with students who needed extra support. During that time I shadowed the therapist at Kosair Children’s Hospital, which I felt strongly about and decided to go back and get my Masters in Counseling. While in school I completed practicums on the Oncology unit at Baptist Hospital as well as Peace Hospital, where I was then hired part time. Once graduated, I worked for Seven Counties Services’ West office and did in-home, school-based, and outpatient therapy work. I then moved into a primary therapy position at Brooklawn Child and Family Services where I worked for six years with high risk children and adolescents who were in the state’s custody. During this time I met Eric Baker who consulted with our organization as our supervisor for our Chemical and Alcohol Dependency Licensure. Eric encouraged me to apply at his practice and the rest is pretty much history. I am extremely happy to be part of the team here at Avenues where this summer I will hit my tenth anniversary.

It has been said, there is nothing so consistent in life as change and my passion lies in empowering clients to identify and embrace the changes they want in their lives. I approach therapy with the belief that providing a supportive and guiding environment assists clients and families through the journey to grow, gain insight, and make the changes they desire. Through the use of parts work, EMDR, Transactional Analysis, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy, Redecision Therapy, attachment based therapy, and Trauma Focused CBT. I work with clients to learn how to bring awareness, action and support together to experience a true sense of well-being.

I have been practicing for 15 years. I have worked in community mental health, foster care/residential treatment, psychiatric inpatient treatment and for the past ten years in private practice. I have advanced clinical training in Transactional Analysis through the Southeast Institute. I have a certification in Emotion Focus Therapy and am trained in EMDR. I am a Licensure Supervisor and also have a degree specialization in Art Therapy.
