Meet Kathryn Ryan
My journey towards providing therapy began in undergraduate school at Loyola University of Chicago, where I started out as an English and Fine Arts double major only to take my first psychology class and have my entire world change. I maintained my art focus as a minor and switched my major over to psychology almost immediately. Following undergrad I lived over seas for almost two years continuing to pursue my passion for art through textiles, drawing, and pattern making. Upon return from living over seas I worked for Redwood, a non-profit serving children in an environment that mixed children with a myriad of special needs with developmentally on target children in order to promote an environment of inclusivity and constructive progress for all of the children involved. Working at Redwood lead me to apply for graduate school at the University of Louisville and further pursue my passion for art and counseling by pursuing a degree focused on both.
Throughout my time in graduate school I completed my practicums at Wellstone Hospital, The Brook-KMI, and Lighthouse, a teen recovery residential program. I worked with many different populations throughout my practicums but primarily focused on teens and adults with substance abuse issues, trauma, depression, and anxiety. After graduate school I took my first job with Seven Counties Services briefly doing in-home work and then shifting over to Acute Child Psychiatric Services to provide intensive crisis based therapy for children, teens, and their families. For the last eight years I have been a therapist and the ultimately the clinical director for Bellewood & Brooklawn, with the last 6 years being in the clinical director role. Throughout my time at Bellewood & Brooklawn I provided counseling predominantly for teens and their families around substance use, trauma, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, attachment, parenting fit, and spiritual trauma. I also provided supervision and consultation for the clinical team. I continue to provide LPCA licensure supervision as well as counseling and expressive therapy services.

My philosophy around counseling is that we have everything that we need to heal and grow within ourselves. We have the potential to be the best possible versions of ourselves, to become unstuck, to evolve through our trauma, and experience post-traumatic growth through a healthy and fulfilling life. I see my role as a guide and touchstone to your personal journey of healing and rediscovering the version of yourself that provides you with the opportunity for the best life possible.
